Arthritis can affect the jaw joint called the TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint). Symptoms can be decreased by wearing a special type of mouth guard that can be worn during the day for clenching as well as at night for grinding (bruxism). In addition, our office would instruct and guide you on what foods to avoid and help to cease certain para-functional habits such as ice chewing, pen/pencil chewing, fingernail and gum chewing. All of these habits increase the painful symptoms of TMD.
